    Session Title: Second Life

    Description:Virtual Worlds are no longer the exclusive territory of gamers. Gartner has predicted that 80 percent of Internet users will be in a virtual world by 2011. According to Brandon Hall Research, immersive environments – such as virtual worlds and video games – have attracted a huge amount of interest from the learning community. Second Life, the best known virtual world environment, is used by organizations as diverse as IBM and the University of Florida to help people learn about complex processes in a visual way. Attending this SIG meeting will increase your awareness of how Second Life can be used for training in organizations.

    Description: The one-to-one computer model has been on the scene for a number of years, but due to costs, this approach has not been broadly adopted. The arrival of low-cost mobile laptops and ultra mobile devices has the potential for changing that. Access to technology has allowed us to engage in a range of new media activities including; social networking, blogging, gaming, instant messaging, podcasting, creating videos and sharing them on the web. These new forms of media allow us to communicate and collaborate in new ways.     Session Title: Using Second Life as a Learning Environment

    Description: In this presentation we will demonstrate how people can cross time and space to meet and learn in virtual environments. We will take you on a tour of Information Island, an online world in Second Life designed to promote libraries and provide library services.  Ideas for online lessons, constructing learning spaces, and strategies for virtual interactions will be presented as well.
